So, February saw my second trip of the year: Vegas, baby! We flew out for a weekend to celebrate our friend Mary’s 60th birthday who wanted to see the town and a Vegas Golden Knights hockey game. Don’t have to twist our arms! Last year was actually the first year since I’ve been in Colorado that we did not do a Vegas trip. But hey, with 12 other trips, I think I can get a pass. 🙂
Anyway, it was a lovely, not-snowy weekend to travel. There were 8 of us in total, and since JC and I stayed in a different hotel than the rest, we sort of did our own thing and met up with the whole crew a few times. We also didn’t realize that it was the Chinese New Year, so we really enjoyed the bonus decorations all over the place of dragons and pigs (it’s the Year of the Pig).
So, we did our usual routine: get up when we want to, walk around from casino to casino gambling, land where we land for food. I’m really happy to report that this year, I barely lost any money gambling! Usually we lose a bunch, but I was on fire! Of course, a major component of that ‘winning streak’ is just knowing when to walk away from a machine after it hits big so you don’t dump it all back in!
So, it was just a two-day jaunt but it’s always fun. Next time, though, we came up with a plan to change things up: we will go for a longer time, rent a car, and do all sorts of things off of the strip, like visit the Neon Museum, Mob Museum and the Haunted Museum.
Oh and take a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. Like you do.
What else happened in February? We attended—well, I attended—our annual Mammoth lacrosse game with friends John and Sarah. JC wasn’t feeling well so he skipped out on us. And, our other friends Lisa, Kent and Oscar joined us with some of THEIR friends! So, while it was not our “traditional” game, everyone had a good time and the Mammoth won, we still missed our photo-bomber.
JC and I also attended two Colorado Avalanche hockey games, I had a fun day of scrapbooking with friends in Greeley, and we had dinner with friends at the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder. That is an authentic tea house from Tajikistan that was built there, taken down in pieces, shipped here and rebuilt. Their tea menu is many times larger than their food menu but everything is oh sooo good.
So, there you go. Those are the highlights. We were also supposed to go down to Colorado Springs for a couple of days to shop and for me to take a card class, but between JC being sick and the weather being a bit iffy, we bagged it. Instead of being bummed that I sat home during a long weekend, I had a plan—I whipped out my big To Do List and grabbed a few long-overdue items off of it. By the end of the weekend I had purged my entire wardrobe, itemized and bundled all of our donations to go, made a batch of soap and cleaned my scrap room.
